People look for a Daylio alternative for a handful of reasons: the subscription, the number of features, wanting something calmer, or simply wanting to try something new. Before you switch to anything, including Dawnli, there are three questions worth answering. Then we’ll be honest about where Dawnli fits.
Three questions before you switch
1. Where will my data live?
Daylio keeps entries on your phone and backs up to your own Google Drive or iCloud. That’s a high bar. Any alternative that moves your history to its own servers is a step backwards on privacy, whatever else it adds. Check the App Store privacy label or Play Store data safety section before anything else.
2. Do I need an account?
Daylio doesn’t make you create one. Neither should the alternative. An email login means a server, and a server means your mood history is somewhere you don’t control.
3. What happens when I stop paying?
With subscriptions, find out what gets locked. Can you still see old entries? Can you export them? A one-time purchase option avoids the question entirely.
Getting your data out of Daylio
Daylio can export your entries as CSV from its settings. Do that first and keep the file. Even if you never import it anywhere, you’ll have your history in a format any spreadsheet opens.
Where Dawnli fits
Dawnli is the simpler, cheaper, quieter option. It passes all three tests above: entries stay on your device, no account, and Premium is $9.99 a year or $49.99 once. There is no analytics or tracking code in the app at all.
It is also deliberately smaller. No habit goals, no widgets yet, no custom mood icons, no automatic cloud backup yet (CSV export is there; backup to your own cloud is coming). If those are the things you use most in Daylio, Dawnli will feel thin. If what you want is a five-second check-in and a calendar that fills with colour, it will feel right.

Trying it costs nothing
Install, type your name, log today. Keep Daylio installed for a week alongside it. Whichever one you open without thinking is the one to keep.
Dawnli is a free, private mood tracker with no account and no cloud. Download on the App Store or get it on Google Play.
